Rich in scenic beauty and historical heritage, Campbell County is nestled in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. History makes a mark in Campbell County with the beloved Red Hill, the Patrick Henry National Memorial. The site houses the largest collection of Henry’s artifacts, as well as his law office and grave. Another historical marker is the Avoca Museum and homeplace of revolutionary patriot Colonel Charles Lynch, located in the Town of Altavista. The Campbell County Historic Courthouse, established in the county seat of Rustburg which was donated by Jeremiah Rust, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Historic Landmark Register.
Agricultural resources are key with two wineries located in Campbell County. Sans Soucy Vineyards, situated in Brookneal, specializes in Traminette, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdo and Tempranillo varietals. Just down the road in Concord is DeVault Family Vineyards, focusing in such wines as Virginia Norton, Virginia Chardonel, and Lover’s Blush. Both vineyards host events throughout the year and participate with other local vineyards at festivals.
While visiting the area, guests and residents alike have more than a few choices of staying home away from home. Along the U.S. Route 29 corridor alone are Spring Hill Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Comfort Inn & Suites, all convenient to the Lynchburg Regional Airport. Campbell County is also residence to the Timberlake Motel, located on U.S. 460, west of the City of Lynchburg and both the Comfort Inn and Days Inn located in the Town of Altavista.
